While comparisons can be be made, the games are really only truly alike when it comes to the fact they’re both “hero shooters” and that’s really where the comparisons stop. Quake’s gameplay is heavily mechanics and player skill based with little to no communication needed whereas Overwatch takes mechanics, player skill, and adds both communication and coordination to the mix. You’re not seeing as much toxicity because you only have to worry about yourself. No game is safe, and Overwatch is definitely not the biggest offender on the block.Īlso, Quake is built around the FFA/TDM game mode, Overwatch is Objective based. The game is actually really well balanced (as you would expect from a series being developed and mastered for 20+ years) and it’s a high skill game, so rarely is a death anyone’s fault but yours, so it’s pretty hard to get mad at your teammates.Īnd forget about toxicity, GG at the end of every match, and there’s either no text chat or a few jokes here and there about people laughing at their mistakes.
